Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018 debuts in style

14 Oct 2018

Dedicated trade fair for cosmetics, skincare, haircare, and fragrances targets Kingdom’s flourishing beauty market

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:  The inaugural edition of Beautyworld Saudi Arabia got underway today (14 October), with 147 exhibitors from 19 countries looking to boost their presence in the Middle East’s largest beauty and wellness market.

Running for three days at the Jeddah Centre for Forum and Events, Saudi’s dedicated trade fair for cosmetics, skincare, haircare, salon supplies, and fragrances targets the Kingdom’s flourishing market where, according to analysts Euromonitor International, the spend on beauty and personal care is projected to be worth US$5.7 billion in 2018, comprising a 52 percent share of the Gulf region’s market.

That's a steady five percent increase over an estimated US$5.4 billion in retail value for 2017, while Saudi Arabia’s per capita spend on beauty and personal care will reach US$154 in 2019, placing it second only to the UAE (US$229) for the entire Middle East region.

The impressive opportunities are underlined by a full house of leading manufacturers and suppliers at Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018 in the Red Sea port city, with the show’s 14 official launch partners at the forefront global players eager to boost business opportunities.

With 67 percent international participation, more than 370 brands, three country pavilions, and a busy programme of educational seminars, Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018 caters to growing demand for a professional platform in one of the world’s most promising markets.

The three-day event is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt Middle East and Saudi-based ACE Exhibitions, and is the 5th Beautyworld event globally, following annual shows in Dubai (Beautyworld Middle East) and Japan (Beautyworld Japan, Japan West, and Japan Fukuoka). It was opened by His Excellency Mazen Batterjee, the Vice President of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce.

“We're continuing to build a portfolio of world-class exhibitions dedicated to the business landscape, industry trends and needs that are unique to Saudi Arabia,” said Nathan Lloyd, Chief Operating Officer at Messe Frankfurt Middle East, which also organises Beautyworld Middle East.

“Beautyworld Saudi Arabia is the 6th individual event that we’ve successfully launched in the Kingdom with our partner ACE Exhibitions, offering leading international brands and local players alike a pathway to further their relationships in Saudi’s vibrant beauty and wellness market.

“Over the next three days, thousands of Saudi traders, importers, retailers, distributors, and industry professionals can network and expand their knowledge-base, while exhibitors will present their latest wares, from Halal-certified Spanish fine fragrances, to Vegan hair masks with coffee extract from Brazil.”

“We’re excited to launch the first edition of the international Beautyworld brand in Saudi Arabia,” said Hadi Al-Harith, CEO of ACE Exhibitions. “This renowned brand encompasses the entire range of products and services for the beauty industry.

“According to Strategic Insights, the market for beauty and personal care in Saudi Arabia is slated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.55 percent during 2017-2025 on account of an increase in average spend by males and females for grooming.

“This is aided by an increase in per capita income caused by revival of the oil and gas industry, economic diversification, a rising population growth in the age bracket of 20-49, growing urbanisation, and greater participation of women in the workforce,” Hadi added.

A key feature of Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018 is the Beauty Academy, a three-day educational workshop and seminar programme aimed at advancing the skills of aspiring salon management professionals as well as hair and makeup specialists.

The special showcase at the centre of the exhibition floor is organised in collaboration with the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) in Jeddah, the Polverini Polverini Trade Academy; and Nazih Group, one of the Middle East and Africa’s largest distributors of professional haircare and beauty products.

Nazih Hamad, Managing Director of Nazih Group, a Beautyworld Saudi Arabia Launch Partner, said Saudi holds a special place for the UAE-based business, underlined by its presence of 87 showrooms throughout the Kingdom: “Nazih Group activities in the KSA started 25 years ago, and the market has grown consistently every year,” said Hamad.

“We take local traditions into account when selecting brands and products for the Saudi market, and this is a key factor to succeed here.  We also strongly believe in education, training, and after-sales support, which will be our main focus at Beautyworld Saudi Arabia.”

Hamad highlighted Nazih Group’s hair stylist and colourist sessions at the Beauty Academy, which he expects to be widely attended: “We’re showcasing new products and trends this week, while we’ve also invited thousands of hairdressers to attend the show and our training courses.

“The market is huge, but there’s still a lot of room for development.  Our goals at Nazih Group are to ensure client safety, keep them abreast of new trends, technologies and fashion, and to help them maximise return on investment in their businesses,” added Hamad.

Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018 covers the five product groups of Fragrance; Cosmetics & Skincare; Hair, Nails & Salon Supplies; Machinery, Packaging, & Raw Materials; and Personal Care & Hygiene.

Other Launch Partners alongside Nazih Group include well-known names such as IFF, Symrise, Firmenich, Sawaya International, identiscents, Al Haramain, Anfar, Alrehab Perfumes, My Perfumes, Neo Parfums, Piramal Glass, Unitrade and Sama Pharma.

Fragrance compounds and finished fragrances are widely represented at the annual showpiece, with more than 40 exhibitors specialised in these areas.  Spanish fragrance house Iberchem is among the many fragrance exhibitors celebrating its Beautyworld Saudi Arabia debut with the launch of a Halal-certified perfume crafted exclusively for the occasion.

“For the first time in a trade show, Iberchem is presenting a Halal-certified collection of fine fragrances, and visitors are invited to find out more about this original concept developed exclusively for Beautyworld Saudi Arabia 2018,” said Guillaume Audy of Iberchem’s Corporate Communications department.

“Saudi Arabia is a key market for Iberchem, and sales are constantly increasing.  We’ve also seen an increase of interest in the niche fragrance market, which embody perfectly the uniqueness and exclusivity of the Kingdom.

“Our long-time presence in the country paired with international insights allow us to offer exclusive fragrances tailored for the specific needs of each one of our customers,” he said.

Elsewhere, Sawaya International is another key player in Beautyworld Saudi Arabia’s Hair, Nails & Salon Supplies section.  A regular Beautyworld Middle East exhibitor, Sawaya is launching a wide range of new products, including its Nouveau Contour semi-permanent make-up technology, Provoc makeup and Clashes eyelash extensions.

CEO Fadi Sawaya said as exciting as the flagship Beautyworld Middle East event is in Dubai, he couldn’t wait to be part of the debut run in Jeddah: “We’re thrilled to be a part of Beautyworld Saudi Arabia to get the opportunity to tangibly feel the Saudi interest and potential for our business,” he said.

“With KSA’s rapid growth towards the cosmetics industry and its high standard lifestyles, we believe we can achieve great business exchanges with both Saudi investors and business people.”

Beautyworld Saudi Arabia is a key networking and knowledge sharing platform for the beauty and wellbeing industries, offering Saudi distributors, retailers, and beauty professionals the ideal stage to source products and solutions from leading international and local suppliers.
