Changing requirements for safer Mid-East cities

9 Nov 2014

Physical Security Information Management at the forefront of integrated security systems at Intersec 2015

Changing requirements across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) to protect cities, assets, and people, has led to growing demand for ‘smarter’ security solutions, with Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) at the forefront of integrated security systems at Intersec 2015 in Dubai.

PSIM – a software platform that integrates and controls several non-connected security systems through a comprehensive user interface – has grown in popularity in the region due to the rise in ‘smart city’ concepts, says David Teppe, General Manager at Advancis Middle East, one of the world’s leading PSIM providers.

Teppe said that PSIM sales for Advancis in the MEA region increased by 250 per cent in 2013, as both the public and private sector look for easy integration of multiple systems such as access control, radio-frequency identification (RFID), video surveillance, and fire alarms.

Advancis, along with many of the world’s largest commercial security providers, will showcase their latest PSIM and integrated security solutions at Intersec 2015, the world’s leading security, safety, and fire protection exhibition, taking place from 18-20 January 2015 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“Security requirements are steadily rising in the MEA region, as broad-based video surveillance and integrated security solutions become critical to protect large cities with extensive transport infrastructure and major events,” said Teppe.

“Homeland security is also a major issue in this regard – certainly the switch from analogue to IP (Internet Protocol), in video surveillance has helped integrated security solutions such as PSIM to develop.  From our perspective, the MEA region is one of the most thriving PSIM markets in the world, with huge potential for further growth.”

Advancis will deliver live demonstrations of its PSIM, WinGuard X3: 2014 platform at Intersec 2015, a software that has been successfully installed 1,100 times in 73 countries with around 25 regional reference sites in the GCC such as UAE military bases, governmental facilities in Kuwait and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) headquarters – considered the MEA region’s most comprehensive and advanced security command and control centre.

“The Middle East is currently enjoying a sustained period of infrastructure development and construction growth, but with this brings new security challenges,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Intersec organiser, Epoc Messe Frankfurt.

“PSIM offers immense benefits to organisations through the integration of multiple disparate IP and analogue systems while saving money, increasing staff efficiency, and improving response times.  Intersec 2015 offers regional buyers a comprehensive line-up of the latest PSIM offerings from leading international players.”

The more than 26,000 expected visitors at Intersec 2015 can learn first-hand how leading integrated security and PSIM providers use their systems to monitor, manage and respond to various security challenges and scenarios, ranging from VIP protection to securing major cities, large events and critical national infrastructure.

Among these include Dutch company Nedap, which will showcase two of its business units: Identification Systems (IDS) and Security Management. Nedap IDS is a leading specialist in solutions for long-range identification of vehicles and people while Nedap Security Management offers AEOS, the world’s first software-based security platform that integrates access control, video management and intrusion detection in one single application.

Joost van der Willik, Managing Director for Nedap Middle East said: “With events such as the Dubai Expo 2020, we know that demand for security and facilities management solutions will be on the rise.

“Our objective at Intersec is to challenge the status quo, discussing with clients, contractors, partners, and consultants how Nedap’s cutting edge technology can add value to their security and facilities management processes.  It is our ambition to offer ‘Technology that Matters’ to create a smarter, safer and more secure world.”

US company Infinova will also introduce its Feature Rich High Definition Cameras, Explosion Proof IP Cameras and Cost Efficient IR Camera Series at Intersec 2015. Meanwhile China's Dahua Technology, one of the world’s top ten security firms, will also showcase its latest line-up of technology surveillance equipment, as it looks to capitalise on increased Government infrastructure spending in the region.

Fu Liquan, President of Dahua Technology, was very positive about their expectations ahead of Intersec: “Intersec is one of the largest and most influential security trade shows in the Middle East as well as the whole of Asia,” said Liquan.

“We see it as a great platform to reach and inform the entire region about our latest products and solutions. Being the first event of its kind in the year, the security industry sees Intersec as the indicator of vital trends and developments in the industry.”
