Islamic Ebru paint and glue made from renewable sugar cane among scores of new products making regional debuts

Dubai, UAE: An influx of new office supplies, stationery, and paper products is set to enter the burgeoning Middle East and African retail market, with major international brands scheduling scores of product launches at Paperworld Middle East 2015.

Organiser Messe Frankfurt Middle East is expecting a standout show when Paperworld Middle East opens in Dubai next month, with at least 50 of more than 280 exhibitors lining up to debut new products and services with a view to gaining a foothold in the regional market.

New creations at the three-day event span the entire gamut of paper products, stationery and printing machinery, including writing instruments, all types of paper, school bags, view binders, paper shredders, calculators, white boards, glues, desk accessories, notebooks, gift wrapping items, shopping & gift bags, and printers.

Among the more unique launches at Paperworld Middle East is from Turkish manufacturer Lisans Kirtasiye, which is showcasing a traditional Islamic and Turkish paint called Ebru, allowing users to paint on water before transferring their masterpiece onto paper.

Targeted toward the arts & crafts enthusiasts, schools, and hobbyists, the Ebru paint is water based and non-toxic.  Semih Arslan Brand Manager at Lisans Kirtasiye, said: “Ebru painting is very popular not only in Turkey, but across the world.

“We are already established in Australia, Asia and Europe, and we are at Paperworld Middle East to enter this very exciting region.  The Middle East and Turkish cultures are very close and we are sure consumers here will love Ebru.”

Renowned German glue manufacturer UHU is also introducing its new ReNature line of glue sticks and liquid glues that are 98 per cent made from natural ingredients, with 88 per cent of the bio-plastic packaging comprising renewable sugar cane.

Bas Zetteler, Area Sales Manager for the Middle East at UHU, said: “With sustainability and environmental friendliness being key words of the present day, UHU committed itself to achieving these goals and made them its guiding principles.

“With the introduction of the UHU ReNature glue stick, which was chosen as ‘Product of the Year 2014’ in the sustainability category by the PBS - the German paper, office and stationery industry association - UHU has set new standards and shown that even a small product can make a contribution to protecting our environment.”

Another German brand, Esselte Leitz, is at Paperworld Middle East to capitalise on the growing trend toward smarter office automation in modern workplaces, with the launch of its Icon Smart Labelling System, equipped with mobile connectivity, multiple device compatibility, and drop-in label cartridges with high printing speed.

“The Esselte Group has origins in office products with a long tradition of developing innovative solutions to simplify and help to organise modern work,” said Sulaiman El-Hamad, Sales Director for the Middle East at Esselte Leitz.

“Leitz Icon is the first and only system to bring ‘smart’ technology to label printing, placing it firmly into the digital generation and up to date with the rest of the modern workplace.”

Other exhibitors launching new products at Paperworld Middle East include UAE headline companies April FINE, Al Gurg Stationery; First Kid Company, Dollar Industries, and Hakancanta, while Bolis from Italy and Lamy from Germany are other big-brand names debuting new items.

Taking place from 2-4 March at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Paperworld Middle East is the Middle East and Africa’s largest trade show for the paper, office supplies, and stationery industries.

The 5th edition of the dedicated industry showpiece returns in 2015 with several show highlights, including the Green Office Area, Playworld, Wrap Star, and the Paperworld Recycling Competition.
